In case you missed it…
Finn Balor was slated to face Bray Wyatt at the Raw-exclusive TLC PPV last year, but a viral outbreak struck the Raw roster, affecting members like Jojo, Bray Wyatt and Bo Dallas. Since it happened so close to the pre-planned TLC PPV, WWE was forced to find a new opponent for the Demon at the PPV.
Unsurprisingly, AJ Styles stepped up to the plate and gave the fans what they all wanted to see: Styles vs. Balor. It was a match of the first two leaders of the Bullet Club, but was a great match regardless of previous alignments.
The two tore the house down and even ‘Too Sweeted’ each other at the end of the match after Balor prevailed. Styles would go on to win the WWE Championship from Jinder Mahal only weeks later.
The heart of the matter
Balor returned from the injury that cost him his Universal Title on the Raw after Wrestlemania 33.He reflected on the match on the podcast:
Since their was such a buzz around the match a year after it happened, Balor offered more insight onto another showdown in the future:
Balor has yet to win another title, while Styles went on to reign as WWE Champion for over a year.
What’s next?
A lot of things can happen to pit the two ultra-talented wrestlers against each other once again.
One could switch brands (Balor moving to Smackdown makes the most sense) in order to fight again. They could just have another match at a Wrestlemania or another PPV justifying it by the success of the previous match. Or they could form a cross-brand faction should another popular leader of the Bullet Club join WWE at some point.
However and whenever it happens, there would be few fans who care about the hows/whys of another dream match between Balor and Styles.
