Mick Foley is a WWE Hall of Famer and became well known as a hardcore legend because of some of the insane stunts that the former World Champion would pull off during his time under contract with WWE.

Back in 1999, Foley was one of the most popular stars in the company and more than 600,000 homes switched on the pre-taped episode of Monday Night Raw on January 4th, 1999 to see who came out on top in the match between Mankind and The Rock. After more than two years of being behind WCW in the rating war, this was seen as a turning point for the company and one that could have eventually led to their victory.

This was Foley’s first reign as WWE Champion and it was a reign that only lasted 26 days, but at the time his feud with The Rock was one of the most compelling feuds on WWE TV.

The heart of the matter

Raw’s 25th Anniversary is just over two weeks away and Mick Foley spoke to Sky Sports ahead of the event. He decided to reflect on his Championship win 19 years ago, but it seems that he feels that his first WWE Championship win was a mistake by the company.

Despite his feelings when it came to the booking of the show at that point, it seems that Foley was able to see the bigger picture and that it worked out for the best for both him and the company.

What’s next?

WWE celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Monday Night Raw on January 22nd, just six days before the 2018 Royal Rumble. The show will be broadcast between the Barclays Centre and The Manhattan Centre in New York and sees the return of a number of legends which includes The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, Kevin Nash, Jim Ross and hopefully Mick Foley will be another name on this list.

Mick Foley is widely considered to be one of the most popular WWE legends in the company’s history, but he has always put the business above his own selfish needs.

Foley won his first WWE Championship that night, something that many wrestlers can only dream of and still he was thinking of the storyline over his own gain. It shows the kind of man he is and the kind of superstar he once was. Foley certainly is one of a kind.
