The Background

Charlotte wasn’t the first woman to main event WWE Raw, but she was the first woman to main event a pay-per-view. Her match with Sasha Banks at Hell in a Cell successfully headlined a WWE pay-per-view. It was a tremendous feat that some didn’t think possible. However, it’s 2017, and things certainly have changed. Once WWE officials started to believe in women’s wrestling so did the audience.

The heart of the matter

Heyman’s comments are indicative of a paradigm shift in the wrestling industry. There is now a belief that the women could carry WWE into the future.

Heyman also talked about how Trish and Lita paved the way for Charlotte, Banks, Bayley, Becky Lynch and others. Women’s wrestling has taken great strides since the Attitude Era and beyond.

What’s next?

WrestleMania 33 will provide the female Superstars with another chance to show what they can do inside the ring. Unfortunately, there isn’t a one-on-one match for the Raw Women’s championship or Smackdown Women’s title. They are multi-person matches, which takes away from the build. However, all the women will do what they can within the time limit allotted.

Author’s Take

To be quite sincere, it is unlikely that the women will main event WrestleMania in the near future. The only way it will happen is if Vince McMahon falls out of power creatively. Triple H probably believes in them enough to do that, but does McMahon? That’s the ultimate question that needs to be answered. There will be more women that have a chance, but the time is now for Charlotte, Banks, Bayley and Lynch to prove that it’s possible.
